NOTE CHANGES IN FOOD DISTRIBUTION BEGINNING AFTER SPRING BREAK/NOTA CAMBIOS EN LA DISTRIBUCIÓN DE ALIMENTOS DESPUÉS DEL DESCANSO DE LA PRIMAVERA

We've had many questions as to why students must be present. I'm attaching language from the California Department of Education regarding this issue:
"Delivery of Meals to Promote Social Distancing
Meal distribution sites should be located in areas that are easily accessible to children eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Schools do not need to distribute meals on a school site and can distribute them at another site convenient to the community such as, but not limited to, local food banks, resource centers, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCAs, community centers, and libraries.

To allow for social distancing, non-congregate meal systems can vary based on community need and it is recommended that meals be taken away from the site and consumed elsewhere. Examples include:

Distributing meals using a school food truck
Sending a box or bag meal(s) home with students for multiple days
Keeping some school sites open to allow students to receive a meal
Partnering with local libraries that remain open to serve meals
Setting up a drive through system in the parking lot to minimize contact. Families can drive through and pick up a meal for all children in the vehicle. Please note, it is not permissible to provide meals to children who are not present."

As many of you may know, Governor Newsom issued a state-wide shelter in place.  Just like at school, this means you should stay inside your home unless it is absolutely necessary to go anywhere.

The governor listed one reason for leaving your home as getting food for your family. Since San Pasqual believes meals are essential for our families, we will continue distributing food Monday to Friday for as long as we are allowed.  We just ask that you practice social distancing when you are at the food distribution site, and stay 6 feet away from the person in front of you.

Please remember we will not be distributing food over spring break.

Starting on Monday we will have three new sites that will be Distributing food from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. We will be distributing food at the old Bill Manes in Bard (1263 Bard Road) the Sheriff's Office in Winterhaven (518 Railroad Ave), and at the Imperial Dam Housing Development. We will continue to serve food from our cafeteria from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Today we were notified that the Yuma County Fair has been cancelled. The junior livestock committee is working on a way for all exhibitors to auction their projects within the current CDC recommendations. More information will follow later. As soon as Mr. Rush or I have more information, we will be sharing it with you. We are so proud of our students and our FFA for all the hard work they put into their livestock and still exhibit projects this year. This is unfortunate for them as they have put in time, money, and effort to be prepared to represent San Pasqual at the Yuma County Fair.

Student Meals During School Closure:
I want to clarify some confusion regarding school meals.
1. Any community member that is 18 years of age or younger may come to the cafeteria between the hours of 10 am an 12 pm and they will receive both a breakfast and a lunch.
2. San Pasqual students who are over 18 will be given both a breakfast and a lunch.
3. Adults do not have to accompany students to get their meals. Students can walk to the cafeteria between 10 am and 12 pm to receive their meals.
4. There will be no meal service during Spring Break and on Good Friday.

All the schools will be OPEN tomorrow.

As many of you know by now, the Arizona Governor has closed all schools. This edict does not impact San Pasqual as we are not an Arizona school. Governor Newsome stated today he is not going to force the closure of the 49% of school districts in California that remain open. He is going to provide clear guidance on Tuesday. Once that has been released, we will review it and act accordingly. Until then, the schools in Imperial County will remain open.

Please know that the Superintendents in Imperial County are in constant communication, and are making decisions based on guidance from the Imperial County Public Health Department and California Department of Public Health. I will continue to update you as soon as I have new information.

_______________________________________________________________________________
