Student Meals During School Closure:
I want to clarify some confusion regarding school meals.
1. Any community member that is 18 years of age or younger may come to the cafeteria between the hours of 10 am an 12 pm and they will receive both a breakfast and a lunch.
2. San Pasqual students who are over 18 will be given both a breakfast and a lunch.
3. Adults do not have to accompany students to get their meals. Students can walk to the cafeteria between 10 am and 12 pm to receive their meals.
4. There will be no meal service during Spring Break and on Good Friday.

All the schools will be OPEN tomorrow.

As many of you know by now, the Arizona Governor has closed all schools. This edict does not impact San Pasqual as we are not an Arizona school. Governor Newsome stated today he is not going to force the closure of the 49% of school districts in California that remain open. He is going to provide clear guidance on Tuesday. Once that has been released, we will review it and act accordingly. Until then, the schools in Imperial County will remain open.

Please know that the Superintendents in Imperial County are in constant communication, and are making decisions based on guidance from the Imperial County Public Health Department and California Department of Public Health. I will continue to update you as soon as I have new information.

Please find attached the District's latest plan for dealing with the Coronavirus (COVID-19). I say latest because this is an ever changing document based on the latest advisories from the Imperial County Department of Public Health,  California Department of Education, California Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization.  Today, the World Health Organization officially declared the COVID-19 as a worldwide pandemic. This is a serious designation that has not taken place for over a decade. This indicates that the seriousness of the spread of the virus is increasing.  These letters will be sent home tomorrow with students.  If, due to rain and flooding there is no school, they will be sent home on Monday.  Please be on the look out for them.

Tonight and this morning, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a strong recommendation that all large gatherings of more than 250 people be cancelled and postponed. Due to this recommendation, and with a heavy heart, we will be cancelling the 40th Annual Pow Wow. I want to thank all the staff that worked tirelessly to bring this Pow Wow to life. I want to thank Cyndee Miller, Adina Alvarez, Lucia Polk, Sarah Jeffers, Tribal Councilwoman Barbara McGee, Jerilyn SwiftArrow, and all the student members of Strong Hearts.

SPVUSD is very concerned with the ongoing coronavirus (now named COVID-19) and are taking preventive measures to reduce the risks involved. We receive updates at least weekly from the Center or Disease Control, and the Imperial County Public Health Department. We have been asked to check the Center for Disease Control (https://www.cdc.gov/_ ) daily for updates and information.

We ask that, if your child is sick, PLEASE keep them home from school. We also ask that you teach your children to follow these important tips:
1. Please make sure your students wash their hands often. Here is the proper way for students and staff to wash their hands:
STEP 1 – Wet your hands with clean, running water. Then, turn off the tap and soap up your hands.
STEP 2 – Work the soap into a lather by rubbing your hands together. Lather soap onto the backs of your hands, in between your fingers and under nails.
STEP 3 – Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Sing or hum “Happy Birthday” twice through to keep time.
STEP 4 – Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
STEP 5 – Dry your hands using a clean towel or air-dry them.
